Message from the President:

Forty years ago this month the Institute for Christian Studies opened its doors to students for the first time. The goal was to offer Christ-centered graduate education. Why?

Because the founding generation of supporters, scholars, and students believed — as we still do today — that Christians should participate in the unending conversation that takes place in our society about what matters most. This conversation takes place in newspapers, on television, in parliament and congress, to name a few obvious places. But importantly, this conversation about what matters most also takes place in university classrooms, both Christian and Public.

The bottom line is that our nations' classrooms are places of great influence, and so we need to be there as Christ's ambassadors of reconciliation. As Christians, after all, we have hopes and dreams for our neighbors, visions of justice for the land we live in, insight about the meaning of life and the love of Christ that add up to good news that deserves to be shared.

The Institute for Christian Studies was designed and launched as a place where we can study how to hold down our end of that society-shaping conversation. Give thanks to God that for forty years our graduates have, in usually small but always wonderful ways, kept Christ and his redemption on our society's academic agenda.
