JOB DESCRIPTION
Subject to Pending Board Position Approval, May 9
 

POSITION: Director of Finance and Administration

RESPONSIBLE TO: President

JOB PURPOSE:

The Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) oversees the implementation of ICS's Mission and Strategic Plan, with special emphasis on the Institutional Health goal and objectives. The DFA has operational management, financial and administrative responsibilities.

A: Finance

  • Create and implement a Business Plan.
  • Ensure that ICS operations are transparent and stewardly and lead operational reform as necessary to achieve this goal.
  • Supervise budget development with the Finance Committee.
  • Supervise work of ICS's off-site bookkeeper.
  • Monitor budget expenditures, five-year projections, and cash flow.
  • Manage timely and accurate submission of financial reports required by government and donors, including (though not limited to) SSHRC grants, FAFSA and Canada Student Loan audits, and reports on disbursement of restricted funds.

B: Administration

  • Manage and coordinate ICS administrative functions, including information technology, facilities maintenance, and general administration.
  • Implement a Human Resources Plan and employee evaluation process to foster a healthy, caring work environment for all employees.
  • Chair weekly staff meetings where ICS administrative and internal community issues are reviewed, prioritized, and assigned.
  • Manage preparation of materials for the AGM as well as Executive and Board meetings.
  • Oversee annual updating of the Administrative Staff Handbook and Board Handbook.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • With respect to job responsibilities listed above, employees and stakeholders can rely conclusively on the actions and authority of the DFA.
  • When the President is absent, the DFA acts in his or her stead, consulting with the President and Board Chair as necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, administration or a similar field.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Commitment to ICS's Mission and Vision, and to its statement of faith and educational creed
