Membership Appeal Letter

February 08, 2016

On behalf of all of us at ICS, I would like to express our gratitude for your support as a member throughout the years. We are blessed by your commitment to our vision for Christian higher education. Our membership is the wellspring of our strength, the bedrock of our community: members like you are standing with us and resolving to continue to build on the work we are doing together.

Here are just a few of the new initiatives we have accomplished this past year, thanks largely to the support of our faithful community:

  • We launched a new continuing education initiative called Continuing Ed/ge with its first module, Genesis, being offered last fall. Under the leadership of Nik Ansell, this program gives people the opportunity to study Scripture from a Reformational perspective without being enrolled in an extended program.

  • Under the creative direction of new faculty member Gideon Strauss, we developed the Wayfinding: Identity, Belonging and Vocation stream in our Master of Worldview Studies (MWS). This exciting opportunity is designed to help people in the workforce navigate the intersections of faith and work.

  • Our first Art in Orvieto was held last summer as part of the Art, Religion, and Theology stream of the MWS program. This unique experience, designed by Rebekah Smick, gives writers and artists the opportunity to engage the intersection of art, religion, and theology.

Most importantly, our members help ensure our mission to raise up graduates prepared to serve God in the world is being accomplished as seen at our May 2015 Convocation, where four MA and two PhD degrees were conferred.

We could not have done it without you!

We are energised by these new initiatives, each one a valuable addition to our work in response to God’s call. We have ambitious plans for the year ahead, but we will need your membership commitment to continue to extend our service of teaching and learning into the community. Here are some projects we envision for this coming year:

  • We are praying for a successful grant proposal for a research partnership investigating religious contributions to best practices in mental health care.

  • We are launching the Wayfinding  stream in September with one online course and one two-week intensive per semester.

  • We are developing the Genesis module in the Continuing Ed/ge program into an online learning format to make it more broadly accessible.

  • We are forging active partnerships with Christian undergraduate institutions and community service organizations to broaden the reach of our educational offerings.

  • We are recruiting adjunct faculty to design and teach courses addressing the “hinge issues” of society, culture and vocation which are integral to our mission.

As you can see, we have much to do. And the most important thing you can do to help us accomplish our goals is to become a member today.

Becoming a member is a simple but invaluable act in support of our mission, our ambition, and our plans. We are a re-energised ICS, determined to pursue our calling as a Christian graduate school providing creative, biblical and thoughtful academic leadership to all people in all walks of life. Your membership makes you part of it.
