SPACES

Where You'll Stay

The ART in Orvieto program occupies an array of remarkable spaces in Orvieto. Our accommodation for all program participants and our classroom spaces for the Graduate Seminar and Writers' Workshop will be located at Monastero San Lodovico in the heart of Orvieto. The 14th century convent is operated by the Suore della Compagnia di Maria Nostra Signora and features modern rooms and amenities, wifi, an intriguing architectural history, garden and courtyard spaces, grand entrance hall dating back to the 1700s, frescoes from the 300s-400s, and a chapel that is open to monastery guests at all times containing restored Baroque and Renaissance artworks.

Those taking part in the Artists' Workshop will also make use of the Studio space in the Monastery of the Servants of Mary (The Servite Order) leased by Gordon College. The monastery is designed around a large cloister and the whole complex dates to the 1200s. The Servite Church, Santa Maria dei Servi, is a large architectural gem refashioned in the 1800s that forms the west side of the cloister. The Studio is along the north side of the cloister, divided into two adjoining spaces under a beautiful vaulted ceiling from the 1200s with plenty of room for sustained work on a variety of artistic projects.
